The way the world learns to inject

Profile Balancing

January 12, 2023

When assessing the face, it’s important to remember that the side view is just as important as the front view. Treating patients 1-dimensionally can have a profound impact on the profile which they may dislike. Artistic injectors are aware of a holistic 3D assessment.

When treating the profile it’s important to determine what needs correcting. Getting this wrong can create imbalance and make prominent features appear more exaggerated. A key factor is to assess the class profile (I, II or III) and strategically placing filler where the structure is lacking. Injectors must also appreciate key angles that, if obliterated, creates a more unnatural appearance e.g. Overfilling the radix, over-lifting the nasophiltrum angle in males (which feminises and creates exaggerated nostril flare), overfilling the labiomental crease (creates a curved in lower lip), overfilling the upper lip in class II patients etc.

Artistic profile balancing should achieve harmony from hairline-to-jawline.
